Sex og Politikk’s vision is: A world where all people can make free and informed choices related to the psychological, physical and social aspects of their own sexuality and reproductivity, without being discriminated against.
Sex og Politikk’s purpose is to promote and defend sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all, locally, nationally and internationally. Our work always has a gender equality perspective. We work for all people to be able to live out their sexuality without persecution or condemnation. Our main ways of working are political advocacy, communication related work, as well as development of sexuality education programs.
Sex og Politikk shall contribute in ways allowing those with rights (each and every one of us) to hold duty bearers (governments and authorities) responsible, as well to equal access to services for all, and development of youth and children into confident individuals, able to utilize their full potential. We work from the perspective that sexuality is a positive and fundamental part of human life, and that sexual and reproductive rights are parts of human rights. Sex og Politikk works to ensure that this applies everywhere in the world.
We have chosen three areas within SRHR that we give special priority to in our work: sexuality education, access to safe and legal abortion and sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. These areas each have a policy document that governs our work.
Sex og Politikk is the Norwegian member association of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). We coordinate our international work with IPPF. Together with our sister organisations in IPPF, Sex og Politikk adopted a platform for sexual rights in 2008. We base our work on this declaration called Sexual rights: an IPPF declaration and its Norwegian translation De seksuelle rettighetene: en erklæring fra IPPF.
In 2015, world leaders adopted Agenda 2030 and committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals that set out to eradicate poverty and create a sustainable future by 2030. Sex og Politikk’s work contributes to make this vision a reality. SRHR are part of goal 3 Good health, goal 4 Good education and goal 5 Gender equality.
